Clay's page is dedicated to a young man, Clay Marks, who I met in September 2009 at the annual Midwest Goat Producers annual goat gala. Clay joined 4-H at the gala and received a young doeling from Little Dixie Farm. While the Little Dixie doeling wasn't his first goat (he already had a small herd started) he has continued to add stock from our farm to his herd. We are very proud to have met Clay and the Marks Family and look forward to watching Clay and his herd grow. Very clever.....what girl doesn't like flowers?
I was so happy that both puppies from Molly's first litter ended up going to the Marks Farm to guard Clay's goats. He has named them Dodge and Dixie. I'm very confident with the puppies breeding and Clay's management skills these puppies will grow in to fine guardian dogs and beloved family members as well.
Clay and Little Man Little Man was a bottle baby out of a set of quads we had in March 2010. The Mark's did me a huge favor by giving Little Man a great home. Tragically early one morning two dogs were in Clay's goat pasture and killed or severely wounded all of Clays goats.
Iris, Rose, and Justice were injured and have had to undergo extensive daily treatments and a lot of TLC but are now doing very well and will be rejoining the rest of the herd soon. Sadly Sugar, Buck, Jozie, and Little Man were all killed. This was a tremendous blow to Clay and his family only a week after the county fair. Clay is a strong young man and has bounced back from this tragedy and is ready to continue on with his goat ranching. Clay will be giving a presentation on his goats at the Midwest Goat Producers 2010 Goat Gala in Fairfield, Il on Saturday September 18. I have to commend Clay and his parents, Kent and Jamilyn, sisters Sadie and Ellie as I know this was an effort the entire family took on. The great care and management that has been provided to the injured goats is what saved them. The majority of the time goats do not survive these types of attacks. They will either die from their wounds or the shock will kill them.
Clay attended his local fairs this summer and really did well. The following is how he placed in open and 4-H shows.
